Grace Wanslutton scored 20 points, Emma Shumet added 12 points to four 3-pointers and the female basketball of the state of Michigan defeated Northwestern 89-75 in Evanson on Sunday.
Spartons (18–4, 8-3 Big Ten) bounced back from 63–59 defeat against Oregon on Thursday night, winning their first domestic losses of the season, and six of their last seven matches.
Nyla Hampton scored a season-hai 16 points for Spartons. Julia Aayyatt added 14 points and Therin Holoc had 13.
Spartons shot 52.5% (31 out of 59) and shot 11-25 from a long range.
Taylor Williams scored 18 points and caught 12 rebounds and led five in double-fiber scoring for Wildcats (7–13, 0-9). He shot 50% (29 out of 58) from the floor but did 18 turnover.
Hampton scored eight points and Vanslutton added six to help the Spartons remove for a 65–55 lead in the third quarter. Shumet hit a 3-pointer and Vansluton cruelly cruelted a trimmed pair for an injury of 11–3 to open the fourth.
It was bound 40-all tied on the brake. Cailehigh Walsh scored all their 12 points in the first half for Wildcats. Winslutton and Iolt scored nine first-two points to speed up the Spartons.
Northwestern plays in Illinois on Thursday.
Michigan State hosts Michigan next Sunday.
