Arlington, va.-A passenger jet collided with a military helicopter landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington on Wednesday, which inspires a major discovery and rescue operation in the nearby Potomac River.
There was no immediate word on the number of casualties, but all takeoff and landing from the airport near Washington were stopped from agencies in the region as helicopters, who flew on the scene in search of the remaining people. Inflatable rescue boats were being launched in the Potomac River from one point near the airport along the George Washington Parkway to the north of the airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that the midar collision occurred around EST at 9 pm when a regional jet which left from Wichita, Kansas, entered a military blackhock helicopter on the runway approach of an airport.
In a post on social media, the American Airlines said that it was known about the reports that a flight was involved in the incident and said it would provide more information after it is available once.
A video of an observation camera at a nearby Kennedy Center shows two sets of lights suit to appear to join a fireball.
The airport stated that the emergency personnel were responding to “an aircraft incident on the aircraft”.
The incident recalled an Air Florida flight accident on January 13, 1982, killing 78 people. The accident was attributed to bad weather.
