Review: ‘Awaz’ Chicago Shakespeare has a laughter-out-laurel primer on Iran

Michael Shayan should be one of the funniest advocates for Iran and the Persian language that was produced by the nation. At least it is Techway from “Awaz”, in the joyful single show of this fiery artist, in which his flicker cried the ego (“The Persian Mother You Never”), the Novuz, or Iranian celebrates the New Year, or Irani celebrates the New Year, And claims that the country of his birth inventions “Algebra, human rights, chess and religion,” Even though the President believes “gays are not present.”

Shayan raised in America and is not a fan of the current regime, instead focusing on the great past and future ability of that great and ancient nation, if it is removed. Most of the ingredients in “Awaz”, which currently plays upstairs in the studio in the Chicago Shakespeare Theater on the Navy Pier, is an attractive set by Broadway Helmer Moritz von Stulpnagel and a fascinating set of Great Beowulf Borit, not out of place, not out of place, zanies comedy Club and I mean as a praise: Shayan, who has worked comic in many media from her Los Angeles base, some very fun lines, many are politically wrong.

“When it comes to systematic marriage,” he jokingly, “Indian checkers play and we play ‘price is right.”

He is also a genial cultural host, which leads the audience in Persian lessons, making his way through the audience for his crowd work and persuads people to dance on his seat. “The shoulder, shoulder, sexy shoulder, eyebrow, attitude” is how he starts a lesson of his movement in Iranian dance.

Apparently, Shayan (who also talks about being “Iranian Jews” in length) well knowing that they need to do Iran 101, at least for a few spectators, and clearly that work With some revival with, examining the differences between the country. For one audience, various regions (at least in part) were clearly seen as synonymous and the country as synonyms. Not true, he says, Tehran is called “original 90210”. Although in exile.

Some Iranian immigris clearly found its way for the show in Saturday night performance, in which I participated, Hopping and Hollering and clearly one I saw-not seen-no or three. But whatever is their origin, I saw most of them laughing.
