Former Illinois Senate GOP leader Dan McConchi resigned to start a non -profit accessibility group

Former state Senate Republican leader Dan McCichi has resigned from his northern suburban seat to start a non -profit organization on Monday.

The Illinois law requires a single party to fill the vacancies of the Mahasabha within 30 days, so McConi’s resignation will not affect the Senate’s makeup, where Democrats have a supermascularity. Their replacement will serve the remaining part of McConi’s tenure, elected by Republican leaders in their district, which ends in January 2027.

Hothorn Wood’s McConchi won the election on Democrat Maria Peterson in 2022 with less than 400 votes on his new remapped seat. He has taken over for almost nine years.

McConchi said in a statement on Monday, “When I always wanted to serve my country and my community, I never aspired to be an elected officer, and of course not a politician.” “It was my friends and neighbors who asked me to step into office and run.”

According to a news release, the new organization of McConchi, the accessibility policy institute, will advocate for improving access to “every level – local, state and federal,” disabled people.

It will especially deal with the access policy in employment, transport and housing, stated in the release.

McConchi survived a hit-and-run accident in 2007 and uses a wheelchair.

As a senator, he supported the small government and worked on bipartisan law, including improvement in school funding. He was replaced in 2022 as the Chamber’s GOP leader and replaced by Sen John Curan of Downers Grove.

McConchi said in his statement on Monday, “My desire to create a positive impact in the lives of others has not gone away, it is just extended to the weakest people, where they live in the whole country.”
