Linwood, Zaida Curry’s first African American woman mayor to face challenger in the upcoming election

Four years after Linwood’s first African American woman was elected, Jada Curry is asking voters for another tenure, promising to reduce expenses and get rid of a $ 25 million village.

Curry, a 20 -year -old resident of the village of less than 10,000 people, said that she would continue to work to promote economic growth and improve public safety if she is re -elected to the office. Unlike his predecessor, Eugen Williams, who held the mayor’s seat for 16 years before defeating Curry in 2021, Curry opposed to bringing South Suburban Casino to Linwood. The State Campaign Finance Disclosure Report shows that Curry’s campaign took $ 17,050 to contribute during the October-December 2024 quarter, and was available at $ 1,7120 to spend in late December. According to the Illinois State Board of Election website, most of the donations came from individuals.
