Washington – The Senate confirmed the Doug Bergam as the internal secretary late on Thursday, when President Donald Trump tapped the northern Dakota billionaire ambitions of the fossil administration to promote fossil fuel production.
The vote was 79–18. More than half of the Senate Democrats joined all 53 Republicans in voting for Bergam.
The 68-year-old Bargam is an ultra-ridden software industry entrepreneur, who came from a small North Dakota farming community, where he worked in his family’s grain lift.
He gave two terms as the oil-rich state governor and launched a presidential campaign in 2023, but was excluded after months and quickly supported Trump.
Trump also chose Bargam to preside over a new National Energy Council, which was tasked to achieve American “energy dominance”. He will have a seat in the National Security Council – the first for the internal secretary.
Their instructions from Trump are to make energy fuel more easier for energy companies for energy companies to tap fossil fuel resources. The alarm was raised between environmentalists and some democrats in the form of greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels.
According to the records received by the Associated Press, Bergam assisted the eagerness of the energy industry during his time as a governor, when he was also making profits from family land leases to oil companies.
During its confirmation hearing, Bergam said that the US can use energy development as a profit to promote peace and reduce consumer costs.
He expressed concern about the reliability of renewable power sources promoted under the former President who Biden, and said that the US needed to generate more power from sources such as coal and nuclear that may run continuously.
In response, the Democrats accused the Trump administration of abandoning the “all the above” energy policy in favor of fossil fuel.
“He said that the wind is dead on the offshore. They are trying to do as much as possible to create coal demand for fossil gas, ”Hawaii Democratic Sen Brian Shutz said during Thursday’s floor speech.
Vyoming Sen John Bairaso, second ranked Republican in the Senate, stated that the energy innovation would prioritize the energy innovation on the regulation.
“He is going to take a general-sentiment action to unlock our land for oil and for gas production,” Bairaso said. He said that more than 600,000 acres of land in Vyoming has been approved for energy production, but was not introduced for development by the Biden administration.
The US currently produces more crude oil than any nation in history, according to the Energy Information Administration. In recent decades, more cost-affected technology carried out drilling boom in states including New Mexico, Texas and North Dakota, where the huge expansion of rural fields has been industrialized by oil and gas companies.
Boom brought billions of dollars in tax revenue to state and federal governments. But burning of fuel is also highlighting the huge versions of carbon dioxide that scientists say that the planet is heating.
The internal department has a jurisdiction of federal land and half billion acres of vast areas. Those regions produce one-fourth of American oil annually.
Internal Secretary also oversees National Park Service, American Fish and Wildlife Services, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Land Management Bureau and other prefixes.
Bergam succeeded Deb Hong, who rapidly raised the sale of oil and gas under the biden and promoted solar and wind projects on federal land.
Trump made energy development a focal point of its first term and is again vowing to end the restrictions on the industry that is to protect the environment and public health.
Bergam during its hearing earlier this month before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee suggested MPs that carbon dioxide from fossil fuels could be captured to neutralize their contribution to global warming.
Carbon-capture scaptics states that the technology is unused on the scale and allows the fossil-fuel industry to continue to continue unchanged in a big way, as climate change becomes faster.
During the tenure of the hand in the internal department, the authorities also reversed the action taken during Trump’s first term, which made it easier for private developers to pursue projects on public land as well as security for immature species Weakened
In the Congress, Republican has said that they again plan to seek changes in the rules on the endangered species and they want to help bargam.
Bergam states that federal land can be used for many purposes that include entertainment, logging and oil and gas production that can lift local economies.
“Each acre federal land is not a national park or a forest area,” he told MPs.
