Neparville North Senior Zach Maili is a rare breed.
The 5 -Foot -8 Maili led the football team in Tackle as a coronaback last season, an unusual achievement, and he could be ready to do something else remarkable. He wants to compete in two games – football and wrestling – a Division II College.
“When I was in college, which was done in Division III, but in Division I or Division II, it’s a rareness,” said Neparville North Wrestling Coach Tom Champion. “There are some people who can do it, but I can’t remember anyone in any skill, as unlike a lineman, it will be even more rare than this.”
Maili, who has committed to Quincy for football, had two scholarship proposals for football and no one for wrestling. He committed thinking that his wrestling career was over.
“After my journey in Quinesi, he really showed a lot of love,” he said. “I like the school, and I like the tradition. I really felt that it was fit for me. ,
Maili, who would switch to the crime and the receiver would play, even before his journey, Quinesi had a wrestling team.
“When I saw that he had a wrestling team, I was so, ‘I can give it a shot,” he said. “I emailed the wrestling coach, so I am still waiting to return the response.
“The worst answer is that I can’t. But if I get a chance, I am definitely going to do both. ,
The Neparville North Offensive Lineman Austin Russia, who is recently committed to the North Central College, will not be surprised if dirty shuts down it.
“He can definitely do this,” Rush said. “As an athlete, I cannot describe the right words for him.
“He is a born leader. People automatically follow him automatically. He is probably one of the clever players I have seen. ,
The champion has seen that both sports.
“He is a special athlete,” said the champion. “I saw him playing football, and I was 10 feet away for one of his pick sixes.
“I will never be able to do anything like this. I don’t know how you see a football, catch it, avoid people, run it for a touchdown, when it is not even your job. Your job is to deal with man. How he was the number 1 tacker as a cornerback, I still do not know. ,
The dirty wrestling is equally exterior. Four years of starter and two-time state alternatives are 28–5 in 144 pounds this season. Regional February is 8.
The champion said, “Zach likes to coach other people of the team, so as soon as their match is over, the first thing is that he starts giving coaching to the next man.” “He knows the strategy. He knows technology. He knows the decision.
“He is fantastic on the bench, and I hope that one day he will get an opportunity and chooses to become a coach at some level. He will really be good in it.”
Maili said that competition in football and wrestling has helped them excel in both. They are complementary in some ways.
“Wrestling, you’re out of there, so it’s just you versus someone else,” he said. “That type of mindset really helps on the football field because I believe in trusting the team, trusting myself.
“This was the biggest thing that I think I was on many other people who do not wrestle, this is my mindset. Getting ready for that match to go against a person really helps me focus, especially when I was playing defense, just going against a receiver. It helps to remain calm, knowing that not every drama is going in my way, but how to come back. ,
It is being ignored due to its shape fuel.
“I still think I have found something to prove on the mat,” he said. “I love both games equally, and I was not ready to give up on one yet.”
The champion, who has nominated Maili for the Athlete of the Year Award in Nepearville North, is looking forward to what can do in Maili College.
“I hope he increases a development because he has got some development ability in his family,” said the champion. “That 20 pounds can be heavy.
“They can have physically a completely different person in two years. I am really excited to see him.
